CHARLIE VAUGHAN SO LONG
Charlie Vaughan shares wistful track ‘So Long’, concurrent with the release of new EP Thank You, Joe Fernandez. There’s a twinkling sense of discovery that goes down a warm treat, but the track is equally retrospective as Vaughan keenly embraces timeless influences in a swinging 60s pop guitar sound. Dotted with folk-isms which bring in a more contemporary sound likened to Fruit Bats, there’s an intentional nostalgia woven diligently through each verse. Elaborating on the origins of ‘So Long’, Vaughan explains that it was written for a short film surrounding a young teenager recounting the events in his life. “I wanted to write a song where the character was looking back and reflecting on what had happened in their life so far. In the song they’re learning to face and come to terms with memories that had troubled them before.” The intention is beautifully summed up with sympathetic verses, making for a special closer to the new EP. -Kayla Sandiford
